It can take courage to seek support and yet couples therapy offers an opening to more harmonious and loving relating.
An initial session is arranged to see if I am the right couples therapist for you; how it is to work with me and online. In this session you would be letting me know what you need support with and I’ll be asking some questions to find out more about what you are wanting. It is also an opportunity to ask me questions, which might be about the process, my way of working and what format the sessions might take.
The initial session is 50 minutes long, the same length as weekly sessions. It would be on the video platform zoom and I would send you information to help you get set up on zoom if you are not familiar with this. The session is of course confidential as are all sessions.
You would need good enough wi-fi and a quiet private space free from distractions. Some couples choose to be on separate screens if they have to be in different locations.
A laptop or tablet work well, but a smart phone is too small a screen to be effective. I can offer guidance if needed to help you make the most from online sessions.
You don’t need to make a decision within the session as to whether you want to continue working with me. Some couples do, but most decide after the session once they have talked together. I ask you to let me know by the end of the next day and I can hold the session time for you until then. The slot chosen for the initial session is usually the time slot for weekly sessions should you wish to continue working with me.
